Background

The Representative Church Body (RCB) is the charitable trustee of the Church of Ireland for dioceses and parishes in the Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland. The RCB manages the funds and properties on behalf of parishes and provides administrative services to facilitate parish administration.

The RCB’s main offices are located at Church of Ireland House, Rathmines, Dublin 6, with satellite offices in Belfast and Churchtown Dublin. The RCB’s work incorporates Finance & IT, Pensions & Payroll, Investments, Property & Trusts, Synod & Communications, Education, Legal and Library Services.

This is a part–time role (17.5 hours per week).

Summary

The RCB seeks to appoint a part time Website Administrator, reporting to the Synod & Communications department.

The successful candidate will be responsible for the day–to–day management of the organisational websites and will focus on three core areas: maintaining and updating content on organisational websites, focusing on usability, in terms of functionality and accessibility, and working with all areas of the organisation to develop, maintain and update the organisation’s main websites.

The administrator will liaise with the existing external website agency and will work closely with the RCB communications team and the various RCB departments, to ensure the website is kept up to date. The administrator will also work with stakeholders to plan and progress any re–development of organisational websites.

Separately, the administrator will also be expected to support the organisation’s external hosting platform which provides web and email hosting for the wider Church of Ireland.

Key Experience

The candidate is expected to have previous experience in the following areas:

  • Maintaining/updating websites and using content management systems
  • Knowledge of web design/development frameworks
  • Knowledge of website hosting platforms
  • Image and video editing experience

Key Responsibilities

Responsibilities include:

  • Website administrator/editor for organisational websites
  • Act as guardian for the Church of Ireland website to ensure content is up to date and adheres to best practice in web content standards, accessibility, readability, etc. This may include developing new features and content and working with stakeholders to support them with drafting web content and checking relevant approvals have been received.
  • Carry out quality checks on the website content to ensure it is user–focused and complies with the website and brand style guides.
  • Monitor web traffic statistics and review data to determine what content should be added to the website and what keywords and topics are generating the most interest; this information can be used to increase traffic and improve the user experience.
  • Plan and facilitate website redevelopment in conjunction with stakeholders. This will include implementing mechanisms to ensure an excellent website visitor experience is provided and maintained.
  • Work with the external creative agency to ensure any development/design is fit for purpose.
  • Assist in maintenance of the document management archive.
  • Create and maintain a suite of website training materials and documentation for ongoing content updates.

In addition to the Website administrator role the successful candidate will provide support to volunteer end users and webmasters in an externally hosted website and email environment.  This facility is provided to parishes and dioceses of the Church of Ireland to enhance their online presence. The external hosting provider will provide any high–level technical support required.

Essential education and experience required

  • Minimum Level 6 qualification in computing discipline
  • Minimum 1–year prior experience in website management using content management systems
  • Working knowledge of web development programs and protocols, website hosting services as well as an understanding of how to update and troubleshoot, how to manage website databases and an understanding of other technical aspects of websites to be able to manage the websites’ software, hardware and security.
